0–0–2Serve
One paddle.One ball. Seriously addictive.
Pickleball Südbaden e.V. is a new club, bringing pickleball to Südbaden.
- New club
- Run by volunteers
- Neighbours from Alsace and Basel welcome
1–0–2The game
What is pickleball?
Pickleball is a racket sport played with a solid paddle and a light plastic ball with holes, on a court the size of a badminton doubles court. It’s mostly played as doubles, the serve is underhand, and the rallies are long. Imagine tennis, badminton and table tennis had a very friendly baby.
I’ve played…
Pick one to see what carries over.
- Tennis
- Smaller court, underhand serve, no big serve to learn. Your volleys will feel at home.
- Badminton
- Same court size, lower net, and the ball bounces. Your quick hands will love it.
- Table tennis
- The same feel for spin and touch, but now you move around a court.
- Padel
- No walls, a solid paddle, and softer, longer rallies.
- Nothing yet
- Perfect. The rules fit in four lines, and you learn the rest by playing.
2–0–2Why play
Why it hooks people.
- Quick start
Easy to get into. The serve is underhand and the ball is slow, so real rallies come early.
- Doubles
Made for company. It’s mostly doubles on a small court, so you talk, laugh and swap partners.
- All ages
Every age, one court. Students, parents and retirees play together.
- Your pace
Your pace. The ball is slow and the court is small, so gentle or fast is up to you.
- Small court
Fits in a sports hall. The court is the size of a badminton doubles court, so many halls already have the lines.
3–0–2Where we are
We’re just getting started.
We’re finding our first courts. First dates will be posted here. Write to us, or tell us about a hall.

5–0–2The club
Run by volunteers.
Pickleball Südbaden e.V. is a registered association, run by volunteers. We’re based in Südbaden, in the border region with France and Switzerland, and players from Alsace and Basel are very welcome.
We’re starting small: first halls, first dates, first players. If you’d like to help shape the club, write to us.
Do I need any experience?
None at all. The rules fit in four lines, and the first rallies come quickly.
What do I need to bring?
We’ll say what to bring when we post the first dates. In sports halls you always need indoor shoes with light, non-marking soles.
Where and when do you play?
That isn’t fixed yet. We’re looking for our first halls in Südbaden, and dates and places will be posted here first. Know a hall? Tell us.
What does it cost?
Membership details are coming. We’ll publish them here.
Which languages do you speak?
This website is in German and English, and French is coming. You can write to us in German or English.
Is there an age limit?
Pickleball works at almost any age, and students, parents and retirees often play together on one court. When we post dates, we’ll say who each one suits.
